What is Stainless Steel?
In metallurgy, stainless steel metal is a steel alloy, with a minimum of 11% chromium content and a maximum of 1.2% carbon content by mass. Stainless steels are recognized for their corrosion resistance. This increases with increasing amounts of chromium content. The most common stainless steels are 304/304L, 316/316L, 321SS and 347SS.
What Is Bar Stock Used For?
Bar stock, also known as blank, slug or billet, is a form of raw purified metal which is used to manufacture metal parts and products. Typically bar stock is used by CNC machine shops to create custom stainless steel fittings and parts. Bar stock is available in a variety of shapes and lengths. The most common being round, rectangular, square and hexagonal and is available in Nickel Bar Stock and Stainless Steel Bar Stock. All of our Bar Stock is certified to ASTM and AMS specifications.
What is the difference between seamless and welded pipe?
Seamless Pipe is made from a solid round ‘billet’ which is heated up red hot and forced over a form until shaped into a hollow tube. Welded pipe is manufactured by rolling the sheet of metal into a tube and then welding it longitudinally across its length. Welded pipe has a weld joint along the center of the length of pipe, while seamless pipe does not have a weld joint in its cross-section through-out its length.
What is PRODEC® Stainless Steel?
PRODEC® Stainless Steel Bar Stock is a version of stainless steel that is processed for improved machinability and uniformity. PRODEC® stainless steel offers faster machining speeds, extends tool life, increases part quality and lowers the total cost of machined parts. Aero-Flex offers PRODEC® quality bar stock in 304/304L and 316/316L.
When Should I Use A Flexible Metal Hose?
A Flexible Metal Hose is used in applications where temperature or chemical compatibility issues are present. Typically temperatures above 400° F (High temperature air & steam) and extremely cold (-325°F) cryogenic applications require the use of a metal hose. Flexible metal hoses can also be used for Acetone, Ethanol, Hydrogen Peroxide, Liquid Propane, Mineral Oil, Mineral Spirits, Toulene, Isopropyl Alcohol and More...
What Are The Different Types Of Stainless Steel Metal?
There are several categories of stainless steel. Ferritic stainless steel has a low carbon content, good corrosion resistance and good weldability. Martensitic and precipitation hardening stainless steel has high strength, high wear resistance but limited corrosion resistance. Duplex Stainless Steel has very high strength and toughness, very good corrosion resistance, good weldability and surprisingly lightweight. Finally there is Austenitic stainless steel has excellent corrosion resistance, good weldability and formability and good creep resistance. This is the only stainless steel that is non-magnetic.
What Is A JIC Fitting Used For?
JIC fittings are manufactured to SAE J514 and MIL-DTL-18866 standards. JIC fittings are machined with a 37-degree flare seating surface. JIC fittings are widely used in hydraulic fitting systems, fuel delivery and fluid power applications, especially where high pressure is involved. JIC give a better seal than NPT especially at high pressures.
What Does NPT Stand For?
NPT stands for National Pipe Tapered threads, also known as ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 pipe threads. This is a U.S. standard and is used for measuring tapered threads on threaded pipes and fittings. NPT threaded pipe gives an effective seal for pipes using hydraulic fluids. It is important to remember that NPT threads are not interchangeable with NPS (National Pipe Straight) threads. Unlike straight threads found on a bolt, a taper thread will pull tight, making a closer seal. Unlike JIC connections, a sealant compound or tape must be used with NPT to ensure a leak-free seal.
What Is The Difference Between Industrial Fire sleeve And Aerospace AS1072 Fire sleeve?
The difference between Industrial and Aerospace fire sleeve is the construction of the fiberglass inside the sleeve. The industrial sleeve is knitted fiberglass while the aerospace fire sleeve is braided fiberglass. Both have the same general temperature ratings and overall performance is very similar. Some companies choose to utilize the braided (aerospace) sleeve over knitted (industrial); or vice versa. Industrial fire sleeve is more economical; while Aerospace provides a denser substrate product in accordance with SAE AS1072 requirements for aerospace applications where prolonged fire exposure is a design requirement.
What Are Hydraulic Fittings Used For?
Hydraulic fittings connect hoses, pipes and tubes in a closed hydraulic system. Most hydraulic fittings have a male and female component that join to form the connection. This helps contain and direct the flow of hydraulic fluid or other fluids while preventing leaks and maintaining pressure throughout the system.
What Is A Stainless Steel Butt-Weld Fitting?
Butt-weld stainless steel fittings are an important part of an industrial piping system. They can help to change direction, branch off or to mechanically join equipment to the system. Butt-weld fittings are typically sold in nominal pipe sizes with specified schedule (Wall Thickness). Butt-Weld fitting’s are defined as per ASME standard B16.9. All Butt-weld fittings are beveled on each end per ASTM B16.25 which helps achieve full penetration during welding without any extra preparation needed to the fitting itself.
What Are Stainless Steel Flanges Used For?
Stainless Steel Flanges are a method of connecting pipes, valves, metal hoses, pumps and other equipment to form a closed system. They also provide easy access for inspection, modification and cleaning. There are several types flanges available including weld neck flanges, lap joint flanges, socket weld flanges, slip on flanges and blind flanges. These types of flanges are typically certified to ASME B16.5 and are separated into pressure classes. Some examples include 150#, 300#, 600#, 900#, 1500# and 2500# pressure classes.
